It's an instrument worthy of being in the collection of a wealthy arch enemy of James Bond. And Elvis Presley apparently tinkled the ivories of one.
It's a grand piano with the "Midas touch."
Hand-crafted by exclusive Italian piano maker Fazioli, the instrument is covered in 24-karat gold leaf. And it's on display at Aberdeen Centre this month, prior to being delivered to its owner in Vancouver.
Valued at $535,000, it was flown first class from the manufacturer in the north eastern town of Sacile, Italy and is now part of the display at the Showcase Pianos | FAZIOLI store.
The piano was designed by local interior designer Thu Watson who owns the Metropolitan Furniture store at Main St. and 6th Ave. in Vancouver.
For the next few weeks it is part of Aberdeen Centre's "Ciao Italia" month which features an exhibition of the best of Italian culture, history, and festivals. Everything from breathtaking monuments to art, and top tourist attractions that have made Italy famous throughout the ages are on display on the main floor of Aberdeen Centre, including some impressive Italian automobiles and motorcycles and a black Fazioli piano.
However, due to the value of the special Fazioli piano — which surely would have piqued the interest of Auric Goldfinger — it is only on display at the Fazioli store located on the third floor where the public is invited to take photos of this unique instrument.
Delivery to the owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is expected by the end of August.
