Pedestrian struck, killed during rain storm

Man, 31, crossed highway wearing dark clothes

A 31-year-old man died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle as he crossed Steveston Highway near No. 4 Road the night before.

"At the time of the collision, it was raining heavily and visibility was poor," said Richmond RCMP's Cpl. Sherrdean Turley.

"The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and was not seen by the driver until he was struck."

Emergency services took the man to Vancouver General Hospital Tuesday night in critical condition.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Richmond Hospital for treatment. Richmond RCMP's Road Safety Unit is continuing with investigation with the assistance of officers from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction services.

The victim's identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Richmond RCMP are now urging the public to adapt to the changing conditions that come with the new season.
