There will be overnight lane closures on Highway 99 for the ongoing Steveston Interchange project on Tuesday night.

Northbound and southbound Highway 99 will be closed to traffic at the Steveston Interchange from 11 p.m. on May 20 to 5 a.m. on May 21.

The closure is needed to make sure crews can safely move a crane across the highway, according to the B.C. government in a media release.

Vehicles will be detoured to the on-- and off-ramps along Steveston Highway during this time.

The Steveston Highway northbound loop ramp onto Highway 99 will remain closed, with traffic rerouted to access the north side on-ramp using the left turn lanes.

The new five-lane Stevston Interchange Project is part of the Highway 99 Tunnel program to improve travel along Highway 99.

This project is also part of a broader provincial project where the Steveston Interchange will integrate with the new eight-lane tunnel being built under the Fraser River to replace the George Massey Tunnel.
