The COVID-19 outbreak at Minoru Residence has ended after more than seven weeks and 17 deaths.
Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, announced Wednesday the outbreak at the 250-bed long-term care facility had been declared over.
As of last week's report, 77 people were infected with COVID-19 during the Minoru outbreak, 66 residents and 11 staff, according to BC Centre for Disease Control, and 17 residents passed away from COVID-19. (New outbreak reports are published on Thursday afternoons.)
The outbreak was declared on Dec. 21 and wasn’t declared over until this past Tuesday (Feb. 9).
As vaccinations started rolling out in early January, residents, staff and essential visitors at long-term care facilities were the first to be vaccinated as COVID-19 has hit these communities the hardest.
