There were COVID-19 exposures at Diefenbaker elementary, Steveston-London secondary and Westwind elementary in Richmond, according to Vancouver Coastal Health.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is warning of COVID-19 exposures at three more Richmond schools.

The two elementary schools and one secondary school have been added to the health authority’s online list of school exposures.

The exposures occurred at Steveston-London secondary on Feb. 1 and Feb. 3, Diefenbaker elementary on Feb. 2 to Feb. 3 and Feb. 4, and Westwind elementary on Jan. 28 and Feb. 2.

An exposure is when an individual with COVID-19 was in the school during their infectious period, according to VCH, however, this doesn’t mean there was transmission of the virus in the school.

Last week, Richmond School District superintendent Scott Robinson told the Richmond COVID-19 Community Task Force that, to date, there hasn’t been “a single case of transmission in any of (the district’s) schools.”

He added that the number of possible exposures in the district’s schools peaked in mid-November 2020 “at about 15 cases in one week.” Since then, however, the number of exposures has dropped. Last month, for instance, there were just one or two exposures per week.

Other recent exposures at Richmond schools include Palmer secondary (Jan. 4 to Jan. 5), Whiteside elementary (Jan. 25), MacNeill secondary (Jan. 20 to Jan. 22 and Feb. 1), according to VCH.
