Mystery over anonymous McDonald's delivery blitz on Richmond street

Residents puzzled after at least 8 homes received unsolicited meals on Tuesday night, resulting in two RCMP vehicles attending

It’s not every day that a Richmond neighbourhood gets blitzed by anonymous, free fast-food deliveries.

“No one knows why we all got a free McDonald’s delivery,” said George Wu, who found two bags containing a cheeseburger with extra shredded lettuce, a large Coke and large fries on his doorstep on Tuesday night.

Wu, along with at least seven other even-numbered houses in his neighbourhood, near Gilbert and Francis roads, received the “bizarre” deliveries around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27.

All the orders were different, added Wu, who walked along his Schaefer Avenue street with police officers, who were picking up the unsolicited deliveries.

Wu called the RCMP non-emergency line because he found the deliveries to be suspicious.

And at around midnight, two police vehicles arrived to inspect the situation.

Wu added police were thinking of returning the deliveries to the Blundell McDonald’s.

A neighbour spotted what appeared to be a delivery driver dropping off all the food, he said.

According to Wu, a manager at the McDonald’s at No. 2 and Blundell roads confirmed the orders were from the store but said they had “nothing to do with her or her store.”
