More than 30 Richmond drivers ticketed by police within one day

Nine drivers did not have their licences, five were impaired and many had no insurance.

More than 30 tickets were issued to Richmond drivers on Jan. 18.

More than 30 tickets were issued within 6 hours during a police road safety operation this week.

On Jan. 18, Richmond RCMP's Road Safety Unit conducted a two-part joint operation with the Metro Vancouver Transit Police to do automated licence plate recognition and sobriety checks near Richmond Canada Line stations.

Richmond RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O'Malley told The Richmond News that police first caught nine drivers without licences and two driving contrary to restrictions near the new Capstan Station between 3 to 6 p.m. They then moved to Bridgeport Station, where they removed three impaired drivers from the road between 9 to 11:30 p.m.

A total of 21 tickets were also issued for driving without insurance and other traffic violations.
