Richmond drivers appear to be having a rough start to the year after one driver allegedly drove into a local bottle depot on Friday afternoon.

A 59-year-old Richmond man had allegedly driven a Lexus SUV into the Blundell Return-It storefront. He then "reversed into several unoccupied parked vehicles," according to Cpl. Dennis Hwang, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.

Hwang told The Richmond News that frontline officers attended the scene shortly before 3 p.m. on Jan. 6 after receiving the reports of the incident. No one was seriously injured, and some bystanders were treated for "minor cuts" from broken glass.

Police do not believe the collision was influenced by alcohol or drugs, and a medical assessment has been requested for the driver.

The accident came less than a year after an electrical fire blazed through the neighbouring vitamin store, 12 Baskets. Return-It, and other surrounding stores, also suffered smoke damage and had to close for several months.
