The estranged husband of a missing Burnaby mother has been charged with her first-degree murder after her body was found Aug. 27 in a suitcase in the Fraser River.

RCMP Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said two boaters phoned police after they found the body of Lancy Hu in the suitcase just west of Steveston.

Until todays news conference, Hu was considered a missing person, and police would only say they suspected Hu was the victim of homicide.

Pound said police kept the discovery of the body from the public in order to advance their investigation.

Charged is Zhongming Mou, 35, who will appear in provincial court in Port Coquitlam tomorrow.

The couples two kids are in care of their grandparents, Mous parents.

The cause of death is not being released.
