Missing boy found safe and well in Richmond

A 10-year-old boy who sparked an overnight search after he went missing has been found safe and well. Connor McDermitt ran away from his stepfather last night in the vicinity of Williams and Gilbert roads near Steveston-London secondary at 8:30 p.m.

Connor McDermitt ran away from his stepfather last night in the vicinity of Williams and Gilbert roads near Steveston-London secondary at 8:30 p.m.

Police confirmed around 7 a.m. on Tuesday that a woman out walking recognized Connor from the description she received from a police officer that morning.

Richmond RCMPs Sgt. Roger Morrow said the boys natural father died about a year and a half ago and hes been struggling with the loss.

Morrow said police were called at around 11:30 p.m. Monday and began contacting the boys friends and checking other places where he could turn up.

Its understood he was reunited with his family at around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

Apart from being extremely cold, Connor is said to be otherwise unharmed. Its not yet known where he spent the night.
