City councillors were expecting this week to consider a rezoning application for Richmond's first medical marijuana production facility.
A bid by MediJean, under the operating name of 1348 Productions Inc, to become a licensed Health Canada pharmaceutical production plant was set to go before a city council planning committee Tuesday.
MediJean already operates a near 25,000-square foot medical marijuana research facility at 11320 Horseshoe Way, near the Richmond RCMP headquarters on No. 5 Road, just south of Steveston Highway.
The city placed tight restrictions on such facilities late last year in a move to control an expected rush by companies cashing in on a federal government decision to move medical marijuana production licensing from homes to commercial enterprises.
