More than 40 of Richmonds finest firefighters were recognized for their service by the city last weekend.
Federal Exemplary Service Medals were awarded to 22 Richmond Fire-Rescue employees with 20 and 30 years of service, 10 years of which was served while performing duties involving potential risk.
The Provincial Long Service Recognition medals were awarded to 13 employees who achieved 25 and 35 years of service and had made significant contributions to the protection of persons and property.
Graduation certificates were also awarded to nine employees for successfully completing the recruit training program and one year probation.
Richmond Fire-Rescue has experienced significant renewal and growth over recent years and we are now one of the leading departments in the areas of recruiting for diversity, exceptional training as well as effective and integrated emergency service delivery, said Fire Chief John McGowan.
The awards ceremony was held at the Brighouse No. 1 Fire Hall.
All award recipients and special guests were marched in by RFR piper Grant Wyenberg and 16 members of the RFR honour guard.
Richmond city councillors Chak Au and Bill McNulty were also in attendance.
