Letters: Why no mowing, City of Richmond?

A Richmond News reader is questioning the level of mowing being carried out by the city

Dear Editor,

I have been hearing a lot about “unsightly premises.”

This is about folks who do not maintain their lawns. I understand the issue. Nobody likes to live in an untidy neighbourhood. Even one of the city councillors took notice.

So, I started paying attention to “unsightly premises.” I have seen quite a few of them, let me tell you. Here is the rub — almost all the properties that need care belong to the City of Richmond or the School District.

I remember the days when the city took great care of its lands. Richmond looked good in those days. Sadly, every year Richmond gets a bit seedier looking.

It is time the City of Richmond sent crews around to clear its own property.

Time to set the example.

Editor’s note: A city spokesman said the tall grass is not a result of the city mowing less, but rather the grass growing faster due to weather conditions.
