Dear Editor,

Keep Richmond liveable,” Letters, Dec. 3

The problems cited by the letter writer regarding the destruction of our neighbourhoods rest at the feet of the council members of 2010-2014.

The majority rode the Wild West Wave that surged over Richmond during this time. Only recently has noisy work been prohibited on building sites on Sundays and holidays and curbs on height have been established. But homes still pretty much can fill an entire lot.

In my neighbourhood, new monstrosities have been built that absolutely dwarf the older homes beside them, like a small hotel beside a humble home. Who’d consider this sensible and appropriate for neighbourhood cohesion?

To answer the question, the letter writer leaves us with this thought: It may not be possible to turn back the tide now; too much damage may have been done.

But I would tell her to look at the voting record of each and every candidate running for city council next time. Many of the same people responsible for the housing mess still sit on council. Their voting record will tell you whose interests they truly have at heart.
