Update: Multiple power outages continue throughout Richmond amid windstorm

Power is out in many areas of south Richmond, as the "atmospheric river" continues to cause problems for the Monday morning commute

BC Hydro is reporting several outages in Richmond throughout the day on Monday

Multiple areas of Richmond have been hit with power outages as the wind storm continues into Monday evening.

In the area of east-west area of River Road, south of Twigg Place and north of Mcleod Court, 1,170 BC Hydro customers are without power. A crew has been assigned and is estimated to arrive at 5 p.m.The cause of the outage in this area is due to the windstorm, according to BC Hydro.

Another 10 residents at the 9100 to 9200 block of Pinewell Cres. has also lost power due to the wind storm.

Twenty residents at the 5600-block of Arcadia Road, 17 residents at the 9300 to 9600 block of Williams Road, Ash Street and Williams Road, and 14 residents at the 10200 to 10300 block of Railway Avenue and 5000 block of Hollymount Gate are also without power.

These areas are still under investigation.

This morning, a large power outage in Richmond has piled onto Monday morning’s misery of flooding and an upcoming wind warning.

According to BC Hydro, an outage affected 2,800 customers in the area north of Dyke Road, east of Railway Avenue, west of No. 3 Road and south of Chelmsford Street.

The so-called "atmospheric river" over the Lower Mainland at the moment is causing chaos on local roads Monday morning.

No. 5 Road was partially blocked and northbound traffic on Highway 99 was being diverted at Highway 91 due to flooding and a collision.

A wind warning has also been issued for Richmond for Monday afternoon.
