Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Richmond on Monday afternoon

We’re barely going to have time to recover from the current rainfall warning, before being hit by a wind warning in Richmond.

Around 150 mm of rain is forecast to have fallen by Monday afternoon, which will be followed by gusts from the northwest of up to 90 km/h.

Environment Canada is forecasting the high winds from noon until 4 p.m. in Richmond at the airport.

“For areas away from the water, gusty winds are still possible but are not expected to be as strong. Winds will ease early this evening as the frontal system moves further inland,” read Environment Canada’s statement.

“High winds may cause tree limbs to break and power outages are possible. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.”

The sustained heavy rain, from another so-called “atmospheric river” over the region, caused problems for the Monday morning commute.

No. 5 Road was partially blocked due to flooding, just south of Blundell Road, and traffic on Highway 99 northbound was being diverted ay Highway 91 due to flooding and a collision.
