Offences including breaking and entering, mail theft, and identity theft "very serious," said judge.

A man convicted of multiple counts of breaking and entering and identity theft was sentenced to jail on Friday.

A serial mail thief who broke into multiple Richmond condo towers was sentenced to 420 days in jail, in addition to 18 months of probation.

Kristopher Richard Mino appeared by video in Richmond Provincial Court on Friday to receive his sentence, after he had expressed regret for his actions to the court on Tuesday.

Mino pleaded guilty on May 25, 2022 to a catalogue of charges which included breaking and entering, and stealing mail from 7031 Blundell Road, near Gilbert Road, and the Centre Pointe condominium complex on 8811 to 8871 Lansdowne Road, near Garden City Lands.

Crown counsel and defence presented their arguments for Mino's sentence on Tuesday, and the sentencing was adjourned to today.

In sentencing Mino, Judge Derek Mah asked Mino to make his mother and daughter proud.

Mah took into account submissions from both sides, and decided that the sentence proposed by defence was "most appropriate in these circumstances."

While Mah considered Mino's offences to be "very serious," he questioned the effectiveness of a lengthier sentence. At the time of sentencing, Mino had already served 267 days in custody.

As a part of his probation conditions, Mino is required to live at a treatment centre for a least six months after being released from custody.

Mino is also ordered to pay a fine for driving while prohibited.
