Input on city densification continues

City proposing to increase non-City centre growth by 40 per cent

Councillors Ken Johnston and Derek Dang were part of a joint venture to build a 15-unit townhouse development on Blundell Road, named Shangri-La and billed by real estate companies as “luxury” living. They are now set to change housing policies on such arterial roads.

Open houses for proposed changes to Richmond’s housing policies along the city’s main roads continue on Thursday at South Arm Community Centre.

The city is proposing to add more multi-family dwelling opportunities for developers.

“Staff estimate that the Arterial Road changes may enable approximately 1,620 arterial road properties to accommodate approximately 6,115 new dwelling units and approximately 17,600 residents in a variety of ground orientated housing forms,” notes the city.

One can visit the open houses to view information boards or look at them online at LetsTalkRichmond.ca.

The city is asking residents to fill out an online survey.

Residents are first asked to answer “yes,” “no” or “no opinion” to the statement: “I support the policy to encourage densification along certain arterial roads to accommodate the City’s share of normal regional growth outside of the City Centre.”

On May 2, there is an open house at West Richmond Community Centre. The last open house is at Richmond City Hall on May 4. All open houses are from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
