Last year, they raised more than $1,000 and collected more than 1,000 food items for the Richmond Food Bank — now the Seafair Peewee A2s are hoping to light it up again this Saturday.

At two SaveOn Foods locations this Saturday — Terra Nova and Ironwood — the Seafair hockey team will split into two groups to ask shoppers to “Fill Our Hockey Bags with Food.”

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the boys will be on hand at the two locations to ask people to fill their hockey bags with non-perishable food items in aid of the Richmond Food Bank.

And they’ll also be accepting financial donations for the same cause.

“Our team started the hockey bag thing last year after a brainstorming session,” said team manager Germaine Nelson.

“The boys wanted to give back and were very enthusiastic about the whole thing.”

The boys are hoping to beat last year’s total of 1,205 food items and more than $1,200 in cash in the four hours.
