Richmondites are invited to share their thoughts on the city’s upcoming financial plan to help manage its resources, revenues and spending.

From now until Sunday, March 3, taxpayers are asked to submit comments on the city’s Consolidated 5 Year Financial Plan (2019-2023) online at LetsTalkRichmond.ca, by email or in person at city hall.

The financial plan is proposed each year after three budgets are approved by council: the operating budget, the capital budget and the utility budget. The plan takes into account economic forecasts, revenues and previous spending.

This year, council managed to bring down its 2019 budget increase to 4.82 per cent from the originally proposed amount of 6.82 per cent by transferring less money to reserves and shaving off money from the community safety budget.

“This plan provides a financial road map for the city to manage its resources, revenues and spending to best serve the community,” says a City of Richmond statement about the financial plan. “It also ensures the city meets its legal requirement to deliver balanced annual operating budgets.”

Comments are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 3 or by email to finance@richmond.ca. Written submissions can be taken to city hall.

The financial plan is expected to be brought to council at the March 11 meeting.
