After coming home from a $12,000 trip to Japan to consult on a planned tall ships festival for Richmond, Coun. Bill McNulty has eyes on a set of unused pilings at Garry Point Park.

He wants a pier built at the park so a large tall ship can moor itself near the village for the Canada 150 celebration in 2017. The permanent pier would also be beneficial for the community, McNulty said. Council’s planning committee has asked staff to research the proposal.

The pilings were placed just before the tall ship festival in 2011. The city previously stated that pier would be temporary, although it never removed the pilings.
