A young Richmond woman, once a contestant in the Miss BC pageant, is among the 25 suspected Stanley Cup rioters charged by the Crown.

Sophie Laboissonniere, 20, is facing charges of breaking and entering and participating in a riot.

The two charges laid against Laboissonniere are part of a 61-charge dossier approved by the Crown, as recommended last month by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

The former McMath secondary student, a budding interior designer, entered the 2010 Miss BC contest and featured in a Richmond News article about the local entrants.

Since the riot in June, it's been an exhaustive process for the VPD and Crown to get to the stage of actual charges being laid.

"We are very encouraged by the approval of these 61 charges and we will continue to work closely with the special prosecution team as even more charges are expected in the coming days and weeks," said Inspector Les Yeo, who heads up the Integrated Riot Investigation Team.

Also acknowledged was the special prosecution team that has been "hard at work reviewing Crown reports for the first 60 cases."

"Having seen the incredible amount of work that went into the investigation on the front end, I realize what this Crown team was up against when we delivered the 163 charges for approval," wrote Yeo in a press release.

"Each report on each suspected rioter was well over 500 pages in length.

"We are in the midst of finalizing the next batch of charges to be forwarded to Crown in the coming weeks."

On Oct. 31, the VPD recommended 163 charges against 60 individuals. "We are now another step closer to holding suspected rioters accountable for their actions on June 15th," added Inspector Yeo.

Other charges were laid against nine people from Surrey; two from Burnaby; two from Maple Ridge; eight from Vancouver; one each from North Vancouver, Delta and Seattle.
