Several models of Ford and Lincoln vehicles between the years 2020 and 2023 are being recalled due to camera software problems, according to Transport Canada.

According to a Transport Canada recall made on Jan. 27, certain vehicles equipped with a 360-degree camera have a software problem that could cause the rear view camera image to not appear on the SYNC display screen.

The make and models of the vehicles affected are as follows:

Year Make Model
2020 Lincoln Aviator
2020 Lincoln Corsair
2020 Ford Explorer
2021 Lincoln Aviator
2021 Lincoln Corsair
2021 Ford Explorer
2022 Lincoln Aviator
2022 Lincoln Corsair
2022 Ford Explorer
2023 Lincoln Corsair
2023 Ford Explorer

Canadian regulations require a rear view image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse gear for vehicles with rear view cameras.

"A rear view camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash," reads the media release.

An initial recall was announced on Jan. 24 where 39,674 SUV vehicles were affected but has since been updated.

Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct people to take their vehicles to update the image processing module software, free of charge.
