Two people were sent to hospital after a fire at a Richmond senior’s rental housing complex early Monday morning.

Richmond Fire-Rescue responded to the fire at Cedarwood Place on Granville Avenue around 1 a.m.

“[Fire] engine one did an aggressive exterior attack and confined the fire quickly,” Ted Townsend, spokesperson for the City of Richmond, said.

Firefighters were able to restrict the blaze to one unit, and that unit’s occupant was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A second person was also taken to hospital because of pre-existing breathing issues.

After firefighters examined the scene, everyone else was allowed to return home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
