Farm Fest will take place on Aug. 10 this year with additional events and entertainment at the Garden City Lands.
This will be the third year the event take place, initially starting in 2017 during Canada’s 150 anniversary to officially open the Garden City Lands.
The budget approved last week by Richmond council for the event was $40,000, which will mean more entertainment on the stage as well as other elements including allowing farmers to display their farming equipment and for the museum to put on a display of its heritage farming equipment. There will also be education on bog ecology and conservation and displays about cranberries and blueberries.
Some of the extra elements will be dependent on sponsorship, and the city is trying to secure at least $5,000 in sponsorship for event.
Last year’s event had a budget of $28,000 in city funds and $4,500 in sponsorship.
City staff surveyed farmers about the best date, and six out of seven respondents felt the Aug. 10 date was better than the alternative, Sept. 21.
