Free weekly gardening workshops have returned at Richmond's Lansdowne Centre.
The workshops, hosted by Victory Gardens, take place in the southeast parking lot of the mall, near T&T Supermarket, every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. until Sept. 4.
Everyone of all ages and skill levels is invited to join and learn home gardening techniques and seasonal planting tips.
Some of the crops grown in the garden include beets, carrots, fennel, broccoli and potatoes.
Since 2021, the food garden at Lansdowne Centre has grown and donated nearly 3,000 pounds of fresh produce to help local organizations tackle food insecurity.
This year, the mall's initiative is expanding to support the Meals on Wheels program while still making donations to the Richmond Food Bank Society.
Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors, caregivers and individuals with chronic or acute medical conditions in Vancouver and Richmond.
“We are proud of the small impact we have made in the community to fight food insecurity," said Bronwyn Bailey, marketing manager at Lansdowne Centre.
"We also host free, weekly workshops at the Food Garden to help anyone interested learn to grow their own vegetables at home, whether it is the backyard, patio or balcony."
