A taste of Japan awaits young and old this weekend at the Richmond Museum.

The museum is hosting an afternoon of fun and discovery for all ages, called Experience Japan Day on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

The public will have the chance to tour the museum's Edo exhibit, play hands-on Japanese games, try their skill at origami-making and partake in a traditional tea ceremony.

The free event has been organized to run alongside the museum's current exhibit, Edo: Arts of Japan's Last Shogun Age.

The exhibit features art and artefacts from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria's extensive Japanese collection, works on loan from the Canadian Museum of Civilization and private individuals.

This travelling exhibition draws upon a wide variety of Edo period art from 1603 to 1868, notably paintings, prints, ceramics and lacquerwares.

On Experience Japan Day, local Japanese art historian Maiko Behr will be conducting free public tours of the exhibit at 1 p.m., 1: 50 p.m., 2: 40 p.m. and 3: 30 p.m. in the museum exhibit gallery.
