Emergency services respond to infant death in Steveston

Police were called to a commercial area of the village on Saturday night.

BC Ambulance Services, Richmond Fire-Rescue and Richmond RCMP were treating an unresponsive patient in a local hotel in Steveston.

Emergency services were called to a hotel in Steveston on Saturday night after getting reports of an unresponsive infant.

Richmond RCMP said it responded to the 12000 block of Third Avenue, near Moncton Street, around 8 p.m. on Jan. 7 after receiving a call from Richmond Fire-Rescue, which was already at the scene with BC Ambulance Services.

Police confirmed to the Richmond News that the patient, despite getting treatment from ambulance and fire department personnel, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although the police would not confirm the exact location of the incident, the Richmond News has learned that it happened at the Steveston Hotel.

The RCMP is currently assisting the BC Coroner's Services in the case.

A spokesperson from the BC Coroner’s Services said they are currently “investigating one death” from this incident but cannot provide more information at this time.
