East Richmond could swell four times

The east Richmond community of Hamilton could grow by up to four times, depending on what locals want to see happen.

Home to almost 5,000 people, Hamilton has long considered itself to be the forgotten child in terms of the services it receives from the City of Richmond.

This week, city councils planning committee learned of the findings from an open house held in spring, which discussed with Hamilton residents how fast theyd like to see their community grow.

Councillors were told that 135 people turned out for the open house, which was also attended by staff from developer Oris, the company behind the proposals to add more density to the community.

Another open house is expected to take place later this month, with options to plan for a local population rise to between 7,000 and 12,000 residents.
