A 28-year-old Richmond man is facing charges after he was involved a fatal road smash on Highway 99 on Wednesday night.
Richmond RCMP and Deas Island Traffic Services are investigating after the two-vehicle fatal collision on Sept. 17 shortly before 10 p.m. on the 99 north bound near the Steveston interchange.
The investigation has so far determined that a white Jeep travelling north rear-ended a black Mercedes that was stopped in the bus lane.
The white Jeep went off the road to the right and the black Mercedes came to rest in the fast lane.
A 43-year-old woman, who was a rear passenger in the Mercedes, was taken Richmond Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver and front passenger of the Mercedes were also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They have since been released from hospital.
The driver of the white Jeep was arrested at the scene after police “formed the opinion that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.”
He has since been released from custody and will be appearing in court on March 24, 2015.
The Jeep driver, a 28-year-old Richmond man, was not injured as a result of the collision.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Deas Island Traffic Services at 604-946-2184.
