Distracted driving crackdown nets 62 tickets in Richmond

Over the course of just a few hours, 62 tickets were handed out by police officers at various locations across Richmond, during a month-long distracted driving campaign.

On Friday, Sept. 15, officers from BC Highway Patrol, the Integrated Road Safety Unit, Richmond RCMP and staff from ICBC and the City of Richmond teamed up to conduct enforcement during the B.C.-wide Distracted Driving & Occupant Restraint Campaign.

Officers at various locations in Richmond were on the lookout for drivers who were distracted by using electronic devices, as well as those who were buckled up improperly or not at all.

Throughout the day, officers issued violation tickets for the following:

38 electronic device infractions;

7 seatbelt infractions;

17 additional violation tickets for other infractions.

Throughout the month of September, police agencies across the province are stepping up enforcement of distracted driving and occupant restraints.
