Councillors aim to save Rideau park's playground

City councillors Linda McPhail, Derek Dang and Bill McNulty, in a joint statement to the Richmond News, stated they are committed to building a new playground at Rideau neighbourhood park come 2017.

City councillors Linda McPhail, Derek Dang and Bill McNulty, in a joint statement to the Richmond News, stated they are committed to building a new playground at Rideau neighbourhood park come 2017.

“Geographically, there is no other playground in the area and we on council do not want to see children having to cross any major arterial roads in order to play. Richmond City Council has instructed staff to consult with school board officials in anticipation of the city replacing the equipment in the same location,” said McPhail.

The playground was removed last October by the Richmond School District, as it had fallen into disrepair and district staff were unable to maintain it, considering Rideau elementary school is now closed.

“Following due process, we will be supporting an expenditure in the 2017 City Capital Budget to replace the playground with safe, modern equipment. The new playground will then be maintained by the City of Richmond,” said McPhail.
