Richmond City Council will decide on the final name of the Steveston Community Centre and Branch Library replacement facility at this week's council meeting.

On the agenda for Monday's city council, councillors will vote whether or not to change the 60,350 square foot, three-storey facility's name to the Steveston Community Centre and Library.

The new facility is replacing the existing community centre and library that has been in Steveston since 1957. City staff wrote in a report that the new name is "identifiable and resonates with the community."

Meanwhile, city staff is recommending city council endorse a grant application for the No. 3 Road south drainage pump project as well as the dike upgrades.

A grant funding from the province would improve the city's resilience to flood risks, according to the city staff report.

If the grant application is successful, a capital of $13 million for the drainage pump station and dike upgrade will also be approved by the city.
