For those looking to conserve water and save on energy bills, Richmond’s clothes washer rebate program has returned.
From Oct. 5 to Nov. 16, Richmond residents who replace their clothes washer with a high efficiency model can not only get a $100 rebate, but lower their energy costs in the future.
Clothes washers are the second highest water consumers for a typical home, following toilets, and use around 13 per cent of household water. Not only can a high-efficiency washer save on electricity, but it can save up to 64,000 litres of water.
Through a joint initiative between the City of Richmond and BC Hydro, those eligible for the rebate can purchase and install an approved clothes washer in a Richmond home before Nov. 16. Qualifying appliances can be found at BC Hydro’s website.
After purchasing a new washer and sending in a receipt (due by Jan. 15, 2018), BC Hydro will issue the rebate cheque.
Old clothes washers need to be disposed of properly and can be recycled at the Richmond Recycling Depot at 5555 Lynas Lane or through the city’s large item pick-up program.
