Missing packages are not uncommon, but this Christmas holiday, a present-stealing Grinch was seen snatching a package from a Richmond residence’s front door while pretending to be a newspaper carrier.

A Richmond residence reached out to Richmond News distribution manager Kristene Murray, when his home surveillance camera captured a “newspaper carrier” stealing a box from the front door of his house.

When Murray received the footage, she knew the person in the video was not  the carrier for that particular route.

“Having known the family, I looked at the person and that (person) was not anyone from the family because they are smaller and leaner,” said Murray, adding that the impersonator was a “stockier man wearing a hoodie and a baseball cap.”

In the video, the individual is seen holding a stack of newspaper in their arm walking up to the front door, placing something in the mailbox and walking away.

However, once they reached the middle of the driveway, they turn around to walk back to the front door and reach behind a pillar to take a small package before leaving the residence.

Richmond is not the only city that’s been targeted with the rouse, said Murray, adding that she advised the resident to report it to the police.

“This is not our carrier and this is not us. They need to know that this is just another scam to steal packages.”
