Car 'engulfed in flames' in Richmond parking lot on Sunday

Richmond Fire-Rescue is investigating the cause of the fire.

A car fire was reported in Richmond city centre in the early afternoon on Sunday.

Richmond Fire-Rescue responded shortly after 1 p.m. on Aug. 24 to reports of a car on fire in a parking lot at 8091 Westminster Hwy., near Buswell Street.

Assistant Deputy Chief Trevor Northrup said firefighters arrived on scene to a vehicle "fully engulfed in fire" within the fenced gravel lot.

"Unfortunately, the vehicle is a total loss, with a second vehicle, parked beside, receiving minor damage," said Northrup.

No injuries were reported, and Richmond Fire-Rescue is investigating the cause of the fire.

Richmond RCMP officers were also on scene assisting with traffic and protecting the hydrant line (water source) that extended onto Westminster Highway, Northrup added.
