A resident of Richmond for more than 40 years, Caroline Sayson was the BC Regional Ministry Coordinator at OMF International-Canada from 2011 to 2015. OMF International is a Christian mission that serves the church and brings the gospel to countries in East Asia.

Sayson is a financial professional (CPA, CGA) with more than 30 years of experience in finance and management and was the supervisor of Budgets and Treasury for B.C.’s second largest school district, the Vancouver School Board. Her responsibilities included budget and finance operations management and policy administration.

She was also one of the mentors for the Immigrant Mentorship Program of the Filipino-Chinese Association and currently provides volunteer services for non-profit organizations. During her free time, she enjoys travelling to other countries such as Thailand, India, Japan and the Philippines for short-term outreach work.

What do you like best about Richmond?

Richmond is home! It’s where many of my family and friends live, and we enjoy the many restaurants and nature parks in the city.

How do you stay healthy in Richmond?

Aside from regular birding and photography, I also register in community programs such as aquasize, Tai Chi and dancing.

What’s your favourite area of nature in Richmond?

It’s tough to choose a favourite area of nature as I enjoy birding and photography at these places: Richmond Nature Park, Terra Nova Rural Area, West Dyke Recreational Trail and Iona Beach Regional Park.

Where in Richmond do you to take out-of-town guests?

Steveston Village and Garry Point Park, Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site, Richmond Olympic Oval, and of course, the Golden Village for food and shopping.  

What is one of Richmond’s hidden gems?

I’m not telling! Ok, I will. It’s Paulik Neighbourhood Park
