BCCDC reports 41 new COVID-19 cases in Richmond

There were 41 cases of COVID-19 detected in Richmond during the week of May 30 to June 5, according to data published by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) this week.

That’s down from 54 cases the week prior (May 23 to 29). Overall, Richmond's cases have been trending downwards in recent weeks.

Case counts have also been dropping across the province. On Friday, health officials reported 180 new daily cases. 

The BCCDC now also provides more detailed information about case and vaccination rates in communities.

Between June 2 and June 10, the city’s average daily case rate of new cases, per 100,000 population, was 2, and test positivity was at one per cent.

As of June 10, 73 per cent of Richmond residents over the age of 18 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to the BCCDC’s COVID-19 surveillance dashboard.

In comparison, 77 per cent of Burnaby residents aged 18 and older have received at least one dose, and 79 per cent in the Tri-Cities. Both Delta and North Vancouver are above 80 per cent for this age group.

For the 50-plus group, 78 per cent in Richmond have received at least one dose of the vaccine as of June 10. In comparison, most other Lower Mainland regions – except for downtown Vancouver, Mission, Chilliwack and Hope – are reporting vaccination rates above 80 per cent for this age group, according to the BCCDC.

Meanwhile, 71 per cent of children aged 12 and older in Richmond have received their first dose. Most other Lower Mainland regions are reporting vaccination coverage between 71 to 80 per cent for this group.
