Richmond's two COVID-19 outbreaks are now over, according to Vancouver Coastal Health. The outbreaks affected Richmond Hospital and care home Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport.

Richmond’s two COVID-19 outbreaks, affecting the hospital and a long-term care home, are now over, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) announced on Saturday.

The outbreaks were in Richmond Hospital’s 4 North Acute Care for the Elderly Unit and at Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport. In total, 18 people tested positive between the two outbreaks, and three people died.

At Richmond Hospital, a total of 13 people, including two staff, tested positive during the outbreak, and two people died, said VCH.

That outbreak was first declared on May 21 after seven patients tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, an outbreak was declared at Lions Manor-Bridgeport, a long-term care home, on May 29 after two patients and two staff tested positive. Since then, a total of five people, including two staff, were infected, and one resident died.

The care home is open to new admissions and transfers, and is working to resume all group activities and visitation. Ongoing infection prevention and control protocols are in place to protect residents and staff, according to VCH.

Visits to Richmond Hospital, meanwhile, are still restricted to those providing compassionate care, physical care and mental well-being to patients.

The hospital is, however, open to new admissions and VCH is urging people requiring urgent and emergency care to not delay seeking it.
