The Grand Prix of Art comes to Steveston this weekend

This weekend is one to treasure for lovers of art in Steveston and Richmond.

For 130 artists – from London Farm to Garry Point Park – will be taking part in the annual Grand Prix of Art.

On Saturday, July 22, the artists, many of whom have travelled from around the province and beyond, will compete against the clock in the outdoor painting event of the year.

Painting at randomly assigned locations throughout Steveston Village, artists in the youth, adult open, and masters categories will race to complete their masterpieces.

Visitors are invited to walk or bike along the Grand Prix route, watching as artists take their canvases from sketch to finished painting in just three hours.

While the artists are painting, the Artisan Market will open at Britannia Shipyards, offering live demonstrations, food trucks, shopping, and live music to visitors.

After finishing their artworks and returning them to Britannia Shipyards to for exhibition, artists will take a well-earned lunch break and enjoy live music before the awards ceremony and opening of the exhibition.

Everyone is invited to come see the display of the day's artistic work and cast their vote for the People's Choice Award.

The exhibition closes at 5:30 p.m., but will reopen on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with more live music and the presentation of the People's Choice Award.
