SOS Children's Village BC invites you to grab your needles and join us for Knitting for Change taking place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 in the Central Court of Lansdowne Centre. This event will bring together individuals of all ages and backgrounds to knit or crochet squares for pledges to raise both money and awareness for a great cause. The squares will later be combined into blankets and distributed to kids in need. The Salvation Army's 2011 Back Pack Drive begins this Saturday, July 23 and runs until Sept. 6. You can help send 2,000 needy kids back to school with a new backpack filled with much-needed supplies, such as pencils, rulers, erasers, binders, glue sticks, White Out, highlighters, crayons, note pads, duo tangs and backpacks. All you have to do is head to your nearest Starbucks or Fitness Town with your donation. Please help kids go back to school with the necessary tools to succeed. CHIMO Crisis Services in a nonprofit organization in Richmond that serves more than 10,000 people a year through a number of crisis intervention and prevention programs. They are looking for community-minded individuals interested in working with youth. As a volunteer Classroom Presenter, you will facilitate workshops at high schools throughout Richmond during the coming school term. Workshop topics range from Suicide Awareness and Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention to Communication Skills and Employment Law.
