Upgrades are being proposed for Richmond's fire hall seven.

Richmond’s oldest fire hall will be getting a $1.9 million makeover done in the upcoming years.

The money has been earmarked for upgrades to Fire Hall 7, on No. 6 Road at Westminster Highway, as part of the city's 2024 Proposed Capital Budget.

Richmond Fire-Rescue Fire Chief Jim Wishlove told the Richmond News the fire hall has gotten upgrades “here and there” since it was built in 1992, but now it’s time it got “a bigger upgrade.”

The most expensive part of the project is the renewal of the roof, windows, seals, exterior doors and overhead rolling bay doors to the building, with an estimated cost of $900,000.

Interior renovations, including replacing the ceramic and linoleum flooring and upgrading the washrooms, are estimated to cost $450,000.

This includes kitchen renos and dormitory relocation and alterations.

“The dorms … not everybody in the hall has their own private space, so for equity and more inclusive space and availability, that’s one thing we want to have for Fire Hall 7,” said Wishlove.

About $470,000 will be needed for a new water heater and new pipes and the replacement of five exhaust systems used to remove fumes from the tailpipe of fire trucks.

Upgrades to the emergency generator, fire alarm system, emergency lighting and baseboard heaters will also cost $80,000.
