Nirmal Kaur Khunkhun said she wanted to tell the world her story after meeting that stranger.

It’s not every day a stranger tosses five $100 bills into your lap, but that’s exactly what happened to Nirmal Kaur Khunkhun recently.

Two weeks ago, Khunkhun was sitting in her wheelchair in front of the Royal Bank at No. 3 and Ackroyd Roads when she was approached by a stranger.

It was a particularly sunny day, and many people walking by smiled and commented on the nice weather.

But one woman who walked up to her didn’t say anything about the weather. Rather, she opened her wallet and gently placed five $100 bills on Khunkhun’s lap.

“I was too surprised. I told her, ‘No, this is too much.’ She told me, ‘no English,’” Kkunkhun recalled.

Regardless, Khunkhun continued to ask questions; “Did you win the lottery? Why did you do this? What’s your name?”

However, the woman “just waved goodbye to me and then headed in the direction of Buswell Road,” said Khunkhun.

The whole incident left Khunkhun with “tears in her eyes.”

Khunkhun is not a pan handler, but she does struggle to make ends meet. So the money is more than welcome. It will be used to buy groceries, necessities and some items that she couldn’t afford before, she said.

“I feel so grateful,” said Khunkhun, who lost the use of her legs in 1983.

“I just want to tell the whole world my story after receiving the money.”
