Richmond RCMP arrested two shoplifting suspects at Richmond Centre.

Two people were recently arrested for shoplifting at Richmond Centre and found with $16,000 worth of merchandise.

Richmond RCMP were doing “proactive patrols” at the mall on Dec. 6 when they saw two people whom they suspected of shoplifting.

As the suspects exited a store, RCMP officers arrested them and found the merchandise.

“This investigation clearly demonstrates the level of financial impact shoplifting can have on a business,” said Richmond RCMP Insp. Michael Cohee, officer-in-charge of Investigative Services and Community Engagement.

“We want our local businesses to know we are aware of the issue and are working diligently, using a multi-tiered response to address shoplifting in Richmond.”

Richmond RCMP will be conducting extra enforcement operations throughout the holiday season, including bike patrols in various business locations throughout the city.

Both suspects were released on police undertakings with conditions to not go to Richmond Centre.

Charges are pending. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

If anyone has witnessed or has information about a potential crime, Richmond RCMP encourage them to contact local police .
