It’s the first weekend of November and there’s plenty of activities to take part in around Richmond that will keep you warm, dry, fed and informed. Here then is the Richmond News’  Three Things To Do.

1. Cannery Market: Saturday, Nov. 6:

The Gulf of Georgia Cannery kicks off its Cannery Farmers’ Market on Sunday (Nov. 6) from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the historic building in Steveston (12138 4th Ave). This indoor, community market, operated by the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society, features local food and artisan merchants, in a unique historic cannery setting. Guided heritage tours are also available on market days by donation. Market days run every other Sunday from November to April.

2. Identifying antiques: Sunday, Nov. 6:

Curious about those items you found in your parents’ attic space? How old are they? Are they valuable? Experts in antiques, artifacts and art identification will be on hand Sunday (Nov. 6) at the Richmond Cultural Centre (7700 Minoru Gate) from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. for an Antique Identification show. For $5 (Richmond Museum Society members receive 10 per cent off), per object to a maximum of three, visitors will get help to unlock the hidden secrets, origins and possibly the value of your objects. The show is limited to smaller objects — no large furniture, books, coins or stamps please.

3. Mushroom show: Sunday, Nov. 6:

The wet November weather is perfect for mushrooms to pop up all over, and the Richmond Nature Park (11851 Westminster Hwy.) is inviting the public to stroll through its trails from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 6) and then come inside the Nature House to learn all about these interesting specimens at its annual Mushroom Show. There, you can meet members of the Vancouver Mycological Society during their presentation of a selection of locally gathered wild mushrooms including species found in natural environments and in household gardens. Admission to the show is by donation.
