Richmond's Uzume Taiko celebrates the rhythm of life by blending music and movement.

A Richmond taiko ensemble will be taking the stage at New Westminster's Winter Celebrations 2022.

Drummers of Uzume Taiko will be offering an "exhilarating sensual experience" with a program combining "the choreographed physicality of martial arts, the heart-stopping pulse of the O-Daiko and the rhythmic sensitivity of a jazz ensemble," according to a media release.

Uzume Taiko is Canada's first professional taiko ensemble and has been performing locally and internationally since 1989. It has a "uniquely theatrical blend of music and movement," and fuses old and new styles of drumming using a variety of percussive and melodic instruments in addition to taiko drums.

Winter Celebrations 2022 at Anvil Centre will run from Dec. 21 to 31, featuring free visits to a Winter World lantern labyrinth and community performances and activities, as well as ticketed events on the event mainstage.

Catch Uzume Taiko on stage at Dec. 23 at the Anvil Centre Ballroom. Tickets are available online and range from $5 to $15.
