Fall for Minoru Chapel's new opera season

Minoru Chapel will once again open its doors to music lovers this fall with a stellar line up of operatic performances.

Minoru Chapel will once again open its doors to music lovers this fall with a stellar line up of operatic performances.

The Minoru Chapel Opera Series will feature intimate performances of classic opera, operetta and choral music at one of Richmond’s most beloved heritage sites.The Minoru Chapel Opera Series takes place on the first Wednesdays of October, November and December. All events will be held at Minoru Chapel, located at 6540 Gilbert Road (beside Gateway Theatre) at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The series kicks off with a star-studded celebration of opera’s leading ladies in Prima Donna: A Celebration of Women in Opera on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

This one-of-a-kind concert by Opera Mariposa will include a selection of work performed by a group of multi award-winning sopranos — many with unique ties to Richmond.

The performance will include highlights from Tosca, La Bohème, The Marriage of Figaro, The Tales of Hoffmann, as well as a sneak preview of the upcoming Canadian opera Alma, which will make its world premiere in June 2017.

The second and third installments in the Minoru Chapel Opera Series are Burnaby Lyric Opera’s Die Walküre on Nov. 2 and a holiday-inspired performance by City Opera Vancouver on Dec. 7.

Admission is $20 for adults, $18 for students and seniors.
