Richmond is a city that is far more multicultural than it may appear to be at first glance, and Richmond Multicultural Community Services is trying to get that message out through the second annual Culture Club Diversity Talent Show on Feb. 28 at Gateway Theatre.
Stefanie Johnston, of RMCS, said there are a few spots left to audition for the show, which features the top 10 picks by local judges. Its an opportunity for youth, 13 to 24, to perform or showcase pieces that celebrate diversity.
Funded by the government, the show also addresses sensitive topics such as bullying and racism in a creative way.
It gives students a chance to collaborate with others and be exposed to things outside of their own school as well, she added.
Theres a stereotype that Richmond has a lot of Asians, but there are multiple ethnicities.
The next audition takes place at 4 p.m. on Feb. 20 at the cultural centre. For more information, visit wws.iamrichmond.ca.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the performance, tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors.
