Richmond street banner contest returns.

The annual street banner contest in Richmond is accepting design submissions once again.

Every year, local artworks are showcased on 1,000 street banners throughout Richmond.

Artists are invited to submit artworks including photography, graphic design and other art mediums of all artistic skill and abilities.

Participants are encouraged to follow the 10 themes when submitting their entries:

  • Neighbourhood
  • Community
  • Connection
  • Wildlife
  • Wellness
  • Urban Landscape
  • Nature
  • Waterfront
  • The Arts
  • Sustainability

A community volunteer judging panel will shortlist 20 submissions, which will then be posted on the City of Richmond's website for the public to vote for their favourite design. From there, 10 winners will be selected.

Winners will be announced in Spring 2023 and will each be awarded a $300 honorarium along with a full-sized banner featuring their winning submission.

Winning banner designs will be displayed throughout Richmond in 2023.

Richmond’s Street Banner Contest is part of the broader Partners for Beautification program, which invites community members to become actively involved in the beautification of their city.

Submissions will be accepted until Friday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m.
