'Beer ramen' hits Richmond restaurant

Is it beer, or is it ramen? A new dish on Richmond’s Yuu Japanese Tapas’ menu has certainly stirred up curiosity. Served in a glass stein, beer ramen is served with cold bonito (fish) broth and egg whites to make the “foam” on top.

Is it beer, or is it ramen? A new dish on Richmond’s Yuu Japanese Tapas’ menu has certainly stirred up curiosity.

Served in a glass stein, beer ramen is served with cold bonito (fish) broth and egg whites to make the “foam” on top.

And no, there’s no real beer in it.

The unique ramen option is available on Yuu’s summer menu for $14.95 and is served with a side of tempura.

So far, the reviews have been fairly positive. Multiple people who have tried it have shared on social media that they were “skeptical,” but that the dish was “refreshing” and “delicious.”

And with this warm weather, a refreshing meal might just be the perfect option.

yuu japanese tapas takes food on a creative ride! this was my first time here, and i had lots of fun trying out their new specialty dishes. def check them out if you’re in the area! (near aberdeen in continental plaza) . . my personal faves of the night would def have to be the beer ramen (bonus originality points!) and garlic butter seared scallops (so juicy and flavourful!) . . ps: although a bit skeptical initially, i actually really enjoyed the “beer ramen” (and no it’s not alcoholic, just a bonito broth with egg foam for the foamy top ). large portion, super refreshing and the noodles had an al dente chew!. . thank you @yuujapanesetapas and @nativmediaco for having me and @vancityfoodiess for organizing! #mediatasting . . #vancouver#vaneats#richmond#richmondeats#ramen#tapas#japanesefood
